KDKA Story
Last November KDKA-TV news department contacted me. They wanted to do a story on a place where the deer are taken care of and kept safe during the upcoming hunting season. Dave Crawley has been with KDKA 18 years and has won many broadcasting awards. I was thrilled when he wanted to do a story on our ranch. He and his cameraman came and spent a day here with us at the ranch and got to know all the deer. He put together a ten-minute piece that was shown on PBS channel 13. The show is KD Country. He also did several short pieces that were shown on the evening news the week of Thanksgiving on KDKA channel 2. He did an excellent job and we have been getting many visitors from the viewing of the show and the news segment. The spot on channel 13 can be rerun if it gets enough requests. So if you want to see it, write or email them.
Monitoring Program
The Double Diamond Deer Ranch is now participating in the PA Department of Agriculture CWD monitoring program. Because of this, all of our deer are now tagged and tatooed. We just completed this process this week. March 12 thru 15. This is done so all deer are registered with the state and can easily be tracked. We tried to do it in the least invasive way possible. So when you come to the ranch this season you will see a small metal ear tag in each one of our deer's right ear. Our vet Dr. Norman Smith does things in a very calm and gentle way and our deer all came out of this proceedure none the worse for wear.

Goliath news:
I have also been getting many emails about Goliath and his trial. Click here for an update.
We have full body replica of Goliath in our Buck Barn. He sports his best set of antlers that scored 410 Boone and Crockett.
We also sell RDM Goliath tees in our gift shop and the money from the sale of these tees goes to Rod & Diane Miller to help defray the costs of the trial.
Bob Passes Away
This past year we have had several of “ole timers” pass away. On Sept 21, 2006 we lost our oldest buck Bob. Bob was a customer favorite and the oldest living buck in PA at that time. He died from old age and was pretty thin, and didn’t have much antler on his head. He was 17 years old. Bob always gave kisses to everyone, and loved treat time. You couldn’t fill that skinny guy up. Bob will be greatly missed. He is being mounted and will return to our Buck Barn sometime in 2007.
Cupid Passes Away
On January 5, 2007, Cupid also passed away. He was 13 & ½ years old. His Mom was Konnie and father was Gus. His birth was filmed by the PA Game Commission and used many times on television programs and in still photography.

His father had been our dominant buck and Cupid fulfilled his calling and was our dominant buck in 2005. Last spring Woody took over that role. Cupid will be remembered for his big body size dark colored coat, and shy demeanor towards customers. His autopsy report from Penn State basically said he died from Rheumatoid arthritis. His Mom Konnie is still with us here at the ranch. She is currently the oldest living doe in PA. She is 16 &1/2 years old. Cupid will be returned to us for the Buck Barn sometime in 2007.
